  • As of Monday morning, the city of St. Louis has committed seventeen murders since the start of the new year.

A seven-year-old girl is among two killed in a double shooting near the Saint Louis University campus on Sunday night, police said.

The young girl was identified by police as Dmyah Fleming from 6200 Block of Famous Avenue. According to an incident report, police received a call around 8 p.m. on Sunday evening for a shooting on the 4000 block of Laclede Avenue, just a few blocks from the SLU campus.

There they found Fleming and an unidentified man sitting in a parked car suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fleming was taken to a local hospital, where she was also pronounced dead.

As the Post-Dispatch first reported, the police informed the local media that the male victim is a black man between 25 and 35 years of age and they believe that the victims may have known their attacker. The police could not confirm the nature of the relationship between the victims.

Mayor Lyda Krewson took to Twitter Sunday night to decipher the horrific crime.

“Tonight, our hearts are broken over the senseless murders of these two people – especially this young child involved in a fatal adult argument,” she wrote. “Prayers to their families and my thanks to the @ SLMPD investigators who handled the case. Tragic!”

The homicide squad takes care of the ongoing investigation. They encourage anyone with information to call 314-444-5371 or anonymously through CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
