A man from Cahokia Heights was charged Saturday with the death of a 38-year-old man found Wednesday by East St. Louis police near a vacant lot on the 1100 block of Market Street.

Trevor J. Anderson, 27, of 1990 at Oaktree Ave., was charged with the first degree murder of Jamil W. Gibbs by the St. Clair County’s Office of District Attorney James Gomric. The three-count complaint also accuses Anderson of murder / intent to kill / injure and the crime in possession of a gun.

Anderson is being held in St. Clair County Jail. The security deposit is $ 1 million.

East St. Louis police said the shooting was reported around 1 p.m. Wednesday. When the officers arrived, they found Gibbs on the ground near the property. He was taken by ambulance to St. Louis University Hospital, where he died hours later.
