St. Louis business community supports Medicaid expansion

Dear Missouri Legislators,

Greater St. Louis, Inc. and the undersigned, respectfully call on you and your colleagues to fully implement Medicaid’s expansion in Missouri in fiscal year 2022. As corporate leaders, we believe Medicaid’s expansion is one of the best economic investments Missouri can make this year.

As you know, Missouri voters approved Amendment 2 in 2020 to become the 38th state to expand Medicaid. Both Republican and Democrat-led states have successfully implemented Medicaid’s expansion as it is a smart, business-friendly investment. A number of reputable institutions report that Medicaid’s expansion will generate billions in economic output and create thousands of jobs. It also provides medical care to hundreds of thousands of working Missourians. Almost 80 percent of these jobs would be created outside of healthcare.

Developing and recruiting a healthy workforce is important to the growth of any Missouri business and is good for the general economic health of the state. If we don’t act, we will be at a competitive disadvantage vis-à-vis the 37 other states that made this investment.

Medicaid’s expansion is a proven job maker. Missouri can no longer sit on the sidelines. Governor Mike Parson included the Medicaid expansion in his proposed budget, and we need the General Assembly to add it to the budget for fiscal 2022.

Thank you for your guidance and service in the state of Missouri. Thank you for your support.

With best regards,
