St. Louis food: Zenwich in Central West End now open

ST. LOUIS – The COVID-19 pandemic may have delayed the opening of a new restaurant in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis, but it didn’t stop it.

Zenwich, an Asian-inspired gourmet sandwich shop, opened on June 1st. This is the second location for owner Chai Ploentham. Zenwich has been operating in the Chicago area since 2009.

Ploentham was aiming for Zenwich to open by the end of April, but the pandemic kept that on hold until June.

The menu for its St. Louis location includes sandwiches that can be cooked on bread or quinoa rice paper. Spicy garlic prawns, basil crab cakes, and Korean cheesesteak are among the options. There is also ramen – Taiwanese spicy beef, mentaiko, and spicy miso are among the flavors.

Zenwich is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Contactless ordering on his website is now possible.

It is located at 8 1/2 South Euclid Ave where the former Taze Restaurant was located.

Since it recently opened, Yelp has only a few reviews for the St. Louis location – but it has 5 stars.

“I’ve been waiting for this place to open up (I’m on my way to work in the CWE) and I finally have to try it for lunch today! Got a super fresh creamy sesame salad with perfectly lightly breaded prawns. Zenwich is I’m Going definitely in my regular rotation for dining near Barnes, “Anna T. wrote on Yelp.

The Chicago area restaurant’s location has hundreds of reviews on Yelp with a 4.5 star rating. One Yelp user described it as “unique and delicious” and raved about the crab cake and prawn sandwiches.
