St. Louis startup GiftAMeal is growing

ST. LOUIS – The food and technology startup GiftAMeal in St. Louis started on a growth path in 2020. Founded in 2015, the startup had its best financial months in January and February 2020.
“Then March struck,” said founder and CEO Andrew Glantz, who refused to disclose certain sales figures.
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Glantz wondered whether his startup, a mobile application that provides people in need with a meal every time a user takes a photo in their app at a partner restaurant, would outlast the virus .
“The pandemic hit restaurants very hard, so it hit us very hard. From March to May 2020 we didn’t know if this would be like a dagger for the company, ”said Glantz.
A year later, GiftAMeal is thinking about its future again. But this time it has growth in mind. The startup signed a deal earlier this month with St. Louis-based fast-food roast beef chain Lion’s Choice to join their platform. With 32 locations, Lion’s Choice is the largest restaurant group that works with GiftAMeal.
The addition of Lion’s Choice with five locations in Kansas City also marks a geographic expansion for GiftAMeal.
“This has led us to expand into the Kansas City market, where we are working with Food Bank Harvesters to raise funds,” said Glantz.
The startup is currently looking for other Kansas City restaurants to potentially join its app, Glantz said. GiftAMeal has already added restaurants in Chicago and Detroit, but has focused its recruiting efforts on-site in recent years.
